訃報 功労劇団員 辰巳鈴太郎の逝去のお知らせ
人形劇団京芸の創立当時から劇団員であり、みーさんの愛称で親しまれた功労劇団員、辰巳鈴太郎が6月5日に永眠いたしました。享年91歳でした。
生前のみなさまのご厚情を深謝し、謹んでお知らせ申し上げます。
辰巳鈴太郎は1926年の生まれ。京阪電車京津線の車掌、運転手を経たのち、1952年に人形劇団京芸の前身である京都芸術劇場に参加しました。初舞台をゴーゴリの『検察官』で、後年共に人形劇団京芸を代表する存在となる谷ひろしとの掛け合いで踏みました。東京の劇団に短期間所属したのち人形劇団京芸に再入団し、『大工と鬼六』『猫は生きている』『ずんべらぼうがすき』『モモ』等の舞台で活躍しました。
差金遣いの名手として知られ、小品「豆狸(まめた)」でのやんちゃな子狸の操演は語り草となっています。また、演出や小道具制作から役者としての他劇団への客演まで活躍は多岐にわたりました。劇団の運営にも事務局長として長く携わり、晩年まで後進の指導叱咤激励にあたるなど、劇団にとってなくてはならない存在でした。

TATSUMI Suzutaro, one of Puppet Theatre Kyougei’s founding members, has passed away
Puppet Theatre Kyougei announces the passing of one of our founding members, TATSUMI Suzutaro, on 5th June. We are deeply saddened by the loss of the unique puppet artist and our guiding force.
Tatsumi, known as Mii-san by many, was born in 1926 and joined Puppet Theatre Kyougei in 1952, three years after its foundation. He was widely known for his unapparelled skill in Sashigane-dukai Puppet. His mastery of handling Mameta (豆狸), a little Japanese racoon puppet, has become a legend. Mii-san’s favorite role was Rokube-danuki in “Zunberabo ga suki(ずんべらぼうがすき)”, in which he demonstrated his compassion to those oppressed in society through (another) Japanese racoon. Beppo in “Momo”, which earned Puppet Theatre Kyougei Excellence Award at Agency for Cultural Affairs Arts Festival in 1997, the first to be honored this award in Japanese Puppetry Theatres, was a highpoint of his career.
Tatsumi always maintained strong apprehension to any kind of power to restrict person’s freedom as a human being from his deep compassion for social equality. His passionate character and the mastery manipulation of puppets will be remembered and honored.
We would like to hold a memorial to Tatsumi on 30th September. More information will be announced.
